Christopher Newport grabs No. 1; Messiah and TCNJ women remain in control
Week four for the 2010 season has wrapped up and the latest D3soccer.com Top 25 polls are now complete. And as expected, we have a new No. 1 in the men's top position; the Captains of Christopher Newport. This is first time that CNU has held the top spot in the short history of our Top 25 poll, and they took 20 of the 25 total first place votes. The Captain's best showing was the second spot in weeks five, six, and seven of the 2009 season. Here are the complete Top 25 polls.
In the women's poll, the top six spots remain the same with Messiah on top with all 25 first place votes. New Jersey, Hardin-Simmons, Illinois Wesleyan, Otterbein, and Johns Hopkins round out the top six. Messiah has been No. 1 in the Top 25 poll since September 27, 2009, when Puget Sound held the top spot.
In the men's poll, Swarthmore jumped two spots to No. 2 this week, sporting an undefeated 8-0 and grabbing one first place vote. At No. 3, Carnegie Mellon also snagged one first place vote and are also perfect at 8-0. Moving up one spot to No. 4 is Dominican, who took two of the first place votes, and rounding out the top five is Messiah, slowly climbing the polls with a 7-1 record and also collecting one first place vote.
After falling to Hope College, former No. 1 Calvin falls five spots to No. 6, and with a loss and a tie, Hobart sinks from No. 6 to No. 16 at 4-2-2.
Moving up three spots this week are Ohio Wesleyan, undefeated Emory, DePauw, and Muhlenberg. On the women's side, Wheaton (Ill.), undefeated Allegheny, and Concordia-Moorhead also improved by three.
