New Top 25: CCIW women grab three of the top ten

The latest D3soccer.com Top 25 poll is now official, and for week five, the Messiah women and the Christopher Newport men repeat as No. 1. The entire poll is available on the left sidebar, or here. You can also check out the new Top 25 schedule and discuss your team's performance this past week on our message board.

In the men's poll, Christopher Newport grabbed 23 of the 25 first place votes. No. 2 Swarthmore, not suffering any movement as a result of its draw with Gettysburg, earned one first place vote, while No. 3 Dominican earned the other. The Stars remain undefeated at 10-0.

Messiah continues its slow climb up in the rankings, moving up one to No. 4, and Stevens at 7-0-2, climbs two spots to No. 5. The Ducks have yet to give up a goal this season.

The women's top spots are unchanged from last week: New Jersey at No. 2, then Hardin-Simmons, Illinois Wesleyan, and Otterbein. Augustana moved up two positions to No. 6, UW-Stevens Point at 10-0 jumped three to No. 7, Loras outdid everyone this week, moving up four to No. 8, and Johns Hopkins slipped three to No. 9 after a tough week. Rounding out the top 10 is Wheaton (Ill.) at 9-2. This marks the first time that the CCIW has had three teams in the top 10.

For the men, Montclair State appeared in the Top 25 for the first time this season at No.23, after a steady climb in the receiving votes category.

Programs appearing in both polls include: Messiah, Stevens, Calvin, Williams, Emory, Trinity (Tx.), Johns Hopkins, Hobart/William Smith, and Amherst.

Rounding out the top 10 for the men are Carnegie Mellon at No. 6, dropping three spots after a loss to Chicago, No. 7 Calvin, Williams at No. 8, Rochester at 6-0-4 at No. 9, and Emory at No.10. The Eagles finally get into the top 10 after a very strong start to their season.

The D3soccer.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
