No. 1 Messiah shutout No. 17 Misericordia 3-0 to move on and play for their fifth national championship on Saturday. The Falcons will face Emory University for the national championship at 5:30 pm CT.

After a scoreless first half, Messiah finally got by the stingy Misericordia defense with three second half goals. It was a dominating performance, as the Falcons had 23 shots to the Cougars two, and 12 shots-on-goal versus none for the Cougars.

Yet the play of freshman keeper Maureen Ciccosanti (eight saves) as well as the Cougars back line kept Messiah at bay for 45 minutes.

It was senior Rachel Scheibeler who broke the match open with her goal in the 54th minute. Minutes later, freshman Nikki Elsaesser added a second goal to secure the Messiah advantage. Senior Elizabeth Phillips added to the lead with her strike in the 83rd minute.

Misericordia ends their most successful season to date at 20-3-2, while Messiah improves to 23-1-1 and will face the source of their only loss on the season, the Emory Eagles. The Eagles were 2-1 winners over Wheaton earlier on Saturday.
