Taylor Ziebol, a rising sophomore midfielder on the Ripon College women's soccer team, died as a result of a car accident in Kansas on Thursday, July 11. She was 19.

Ziebol, a native of Burnsville, Minn., was on a road trip with her younger siblings, 17-year-old Shannon and 15-year-old Adam.

She started 15 games as a freshman, scoring two goals, the last one against Edgewood pictured at right. The image was posted to Ripon coach Sam Schroeder's Twitter account.

"We're heartbroken," Schroeder said. "Taylor epitomized what it means to be a good teammate and a good person. She set an example for us all every single day. We will miss Taylor's limitless energy, determined spirit, and ever-positive outlook. We will miss our friend."

Schroeder also noted: "Taylor Ziebol posted 'God is not committed to our comfort. He is committed to our character.' We would do well to take that to heart."

More than a hundred people turned out for a prayer night in Burnsville on Thursday night in remembrance.

The photo on our front page comes from Taylor's Facebook page, taken while she was on a trip to Jamaica with Ripon's Peace Studies class in May.
