No. 2 Wheaton women grab Friday win

On Friday afternoon, the second-ranked Wheaton women blanked CCIW opponent North Central 2-0 to improve to 11-0-0. 

Sophomore Syndey Scharkey scored in the first half for the game winner, while senior Baily Wysocki added an insurance goal late in the second. The Thunder outshot the Cardinals 28-9, with North Central freshman keeper making nine saves in the match.

In other women's action on Friday No. 4 Trinity blanked Dallas 3-0, and No. 5 William Smith needed overtime to edge Vassar 1-0, with junior Dineo Mmutla ending it for the Herons in the 91st minute. 

In a mild upset, RPI were 3-1 winners over No. 21 St. Lawrence. But the No. 24 Saints men avanged that loss with a 3-0 shut-out of the Engineers.

In more men's action, No. 1 Ohio Wesleyan continued its strong start in 2013 with a dominant 6-0 victory over Wittenberg. Jon Stegner scored twice and Paolo Bucci added two assists. The Battling Bishops move to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC.

Two goals in each half powered No. 16 Brockport State past New Paltz State in SUNYAC play, while three second half goals carried No. 23 Wheaton College (Ill.) to a victory over North Central.

In Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, Lynchburg shutout Shenandoah 4-0. The Hornets kept Shenandoah of the scoresheet as well as not surrendering a single shot.
