D’Youville College Names New Women’s Soccer Coach

Buffalo, NY (6/22/09)-D’Youville College Director of Athletics Brain Cavanaugh has named Lew Potter the Head Coach of women’s soccer effective immediately.
Potter has experience coaching at all levels including an extensive collegiate background. He was the first Director of Soccer Operations and Head men’s and women’s coach at Medaille College from 1997-2001. In 2000 Potter led the Medaille women’s team to the Upstate Athletic Alliance championship while guiding the men’s team to title match that same season. In 2006 and 2007 Potter worked as an assistant coach with the Buffalo State women’s team.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have a coach with so many established ties to Western New York soccer,” says Cavanaugh. “Our women’s program has made huge strides the last two years and Coach Potter is extremely experienced and will keep us moving forward.”
Potter is currently the Director of Coaching and Tournament Operations at Hamburg Soccer Club and is a head coach with the Empire/Buffalo United Soccer Club.
The new D’Youville coach inherits a program that returns their top four scorers and top goalkeeper from 2008. In 2009 the Spartans begin their first season as members of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and open the campaign Thursday, September 1st with a non-conference match at Oswego State.
