BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Tomas Cerveny's (Trnava, Slovakia) goal with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation lifted Salem State to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Massachusetts Maritime in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer finale for both schools Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Cerveny's unassisted marker in the 77th minute (his first of the season), a blast from 15 yards out from the left side, enabled the visiting Vikings (7-5-4, 4-2-1 MASCAC) to force the extra sessions after sophomore Tim McDonough (Framingham, Mass.) had given the host Buccaneers (7-10-1, 2-4-1 MASCAC) a one-goal advantage in the 53rd minute of action with his third marker of the year that came on a deflection in front.  The two teams had played a scoreless opening 45 minutes of action that saw Massachusetts Maritime control much of the play, but Salem State used eight second half shots to even matters, as the Vikings had three of the combined five shots in the overtime periods.

Freshman Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made five saves in the draw for Massachusetts Maritime, while senior Luis Marques (Fall River, Mass.) also registered five stops in net for Salem State as the Vikings outshot the Buccaneers by a 13-11 margin while holding a 9-6 edge in corners in a match preceded by Senior Night festivities that honored both schools' respective Classes of 2011.

Salem State will await its seeding in the upcoming Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championships, which begin on Wednesday with semi-final round action.  Conference playoffs pairings will be announced by the league office on Saturday evening.  Massachusetts Maritime matched its win total of last season and ended Head Coach Greg Perry's 18th year on the Buccaneer bench with a 3-1-1 mark in its last five outings.
