NJCU MEN'S SOCCER IMPROVES TO 2-1, BLANKS CCNY 2-0

NEW YORK, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University took advantage of an early own goal before sophomore forward RAPHAEL ARAUJO (North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) scored for the third consecutive game to open the season as the Gothic Knight men's soccer team blanked City College of New York, 2-0, in a non-conference  contest on Wednesday on Randall's Island Field #51.
 
NJCU improves to 2-1 on the season while handing CCNY (1-1) its first defeat, outshooting the Beavers, 19-11. NJCU leads the all-time series, 9-1 (39-10 goals differential).
 
Araujo, who now leads the club with four goals after scoring twice as a rookie in 2011, was on the receiving end of a long throw in from rookie midfielder ALEC METSCH (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) late in the 42nd minute and knocked in the throw among a defensive scramble for the 2-0 lead at the 41:50 mark. Metsch earned his first career assist on the play.
 
Freshman goalkeeper KEVIN FUENTES (West New York, NJ/Memorial) made his second consecutive start and stopped four shots to record his first collegiate shutout while improving to 2-0.
