UW-Platteville Men's Soccer Wins in Overtime to Defeat Carroll, 2-1
University of Wisconsin-Platteville freshman William Pretto scored the game-winning goal on a header after a throw in from Cameron Weess in the 96th minute to lead the visitors to a 2-1 overtime win over Carroll University on Sunday afternoon.
Pretto, who now has three goals on the season, had a shot in the 64th minute that hit the post picked up redemption for his second game-winning goal of the season.
Carroll University (5-4) went ahead when Neil Zoglman scored in the 35th minute as it was only the fourth goal allowed by UW-Platteville in the first half on the season. Carroll goalkeeper Tomek Miaskowski kept the match close with five saves in the loss.
UW-Platteville (8-1-1) had to turn up the offensive intensity in the second half and in overtime with the 1-0 deficit. After its first three shots came up short in the second 45 minutes, Brown tied the match at 1 in the 85th minute for his third goal of the season with a shot from 30 yards out. Then, in the early minutes of overtime shots by Brown and Michael Prudisch in the 92nd and 93rd minutes, respectively were saved by the Carroll goalkeeper.
Carroll had a shot that was saved by UW-Platteville goalkeeper Ian Christensen, who had six saves in the win, to keep the game tied in the 94th minute. A little over a minute later, Pretto found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
Next up for UW-Platteville, who was ranked No. 6 in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America regional rankings, will face Coe on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Pioneer Stadium at 7 p.m.
