BROOKLYN EDGES NJCU, 2-0, IN 2013 OPENER
STATEN ISLAND, NY (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University dominated Brooklyn College in shots and corner kicks, but the Bulldogs scored with eight seconds remaining in the first half and added a last minute insurance goal with the Gothic Knights pushing forward as Brooklyn edged NJCU, 2-0, in the 2013 season opener for both schools in the CSI Soccer Fall Classic on August 30 at the CSI Soccer Complex.
In a rematch of the 2012 ECAC Quarterfinals in which the clubs played out to a 3-3 tie before NJCU (0-1) advanced via a shootout, the Knights outshot Brooklyn (1-0) in each period, including 10-5 in the second half, for a 16-9 margin in the game, while boosting its scoring chances with a 9-1 differential on corner kicks. The win for Brooklyn was its first over NJCU since 1981.
NJCU, opening its 55th season of intercollegiate soccer, put six shots on goal, but all were right at BC keeper Kamil Ostrowski, who made six saves. Freshman goalkeeperNICK NARDONE (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) made four stops for NJCU in his collegiate debut.
