Wheaton (Ill.) blanks Aurora 6-0

Aurora, Ill. – The Wheaton men's soccer team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-0 non-conference win at Aurora University (7-5-1). Wheaton, ranked eighth in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25, is now 9-3 overall. The Thunder will resume conference play on Saturday in a 7 PM start at Elmhurst College's Langhorst Field. (PLEASE NOTE: The start time of Saturday's match is 7 PM, not 7:30 PM as previously listed).

Wheaton out-shot Aurora this afternoon 9-5 in the first half, converting two of those shots into goals for a 2-0 Thunder lead at halftime. Sophomore Stephen Golz put Wheaton on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when he netted his team-high eighth goal of the year off of a Noah Anthony assist. Stephen's brother Jordan Golz scored about one-and-a-half minutes later to increase Wheaton's lead to 2-0. The Jordan Golz goal was his third of the year and was assisted by Anthony Elliot Borge.


The Thunder dominated play in the second half, out-shooting the Spartans 16-5. Jon Clark (PICTURED LEFT) scored in the 60th minute thanks to an assist by his brother Josh Clark to increase Wheaton's lead to 3-0. Brendan Finnerty scored a goal in the 85th minute and added another in the 87th minute to increase Wheaton's advantage to 5-0. Trevor Adams scored the six goal of the match in the closing seconds to account for Wheaton's 6-0 victory.

Wheaton out-shot the hosts 25-10 for the match and the Thunder owned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Thunder goalkeeper Matt Paprocki made four saves in recording the shutout. Aurora netminder Zach Richter allowed three goals, with no saves in 75 minutes or action in the net. Chris Donner played 15 minutes in the Spartans' net, with no saves and three goals.
