  • Oglethorpe's Hoeft, Marquez Named to National Soccer Coaches' Scholar All-South Region Team

    Junior defender Josh Hoeft and junior midfielder Erik Marquez of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team added to the squad's postseason awards bounty this week, as they both took home Scholar All-South Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). It marks the first such honor for both players and the second year in a row that at least one member of the Stormy Petrels has earned NSCAA Scholar All-Region accolades.

    It was announced earlier today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) that University of Redlands Head Men's Soccer Coach Ralph Perez and Assistant Coaches Nico Johnson, Cody Carlson, and Claudio Rivas have been named the NCAA Division III West Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

    It was announced earlier today that five University of Redlands men's soccer standouts garnered recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as members of the All-West Region teams. Junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) represented the Bulldogs on the First Team, while junior forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR), junior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA), and junior defender Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI) landed on the Second Team. In addition, junior defender Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA) collected Third-Team honors for the Maroon and Gray.

    Riding the momentum of back-to-back Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament championships, the University of Redlands men's soccer team battled it out against the Washington University (St. Louis) Bears in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships in Greencastle, Indiana, on Saturday night. Despite wintry temperatures and a two-goal deficit through 71 minutes, the Maroon and Gray battled its way back to tie it in regulation and force overtime. With the score knotted at two apiece after 110 minutes, the Bulldogs finally punched their ticket to the second round of the playoffs with an exciting 4-3 advantage in the shoot-out, as junior defender Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI) knocked in the deciding penalty kick for the Maroon and Gray.
