Warhawks Outlast Millikin on Senior Night

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team celebrated senior night with a 4-2 victory over Millikin University Wednesday evening at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks, 8-3-4, are unbeaten in their last seven matches and conclude the home portion of their schedule with a 5-0-1 record.
The Warhawks dominated possession for most of the first 45 minutes. UW-W outshot the Big Blue nine to four, including six to two in shots on goal.
Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute scoring on a through ball from Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria). Monterroso played Ortiz to the right side of the box and Ortiz knocked it past the keeper at the far post.
The Big Blue had their best opportunity in the final minutes of the first half, but senior goalkeeper Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) made a sprawling kick save.
The second half got wild.
The Warhawks extended their lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute when Peter Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) hit a cross from the left side of the field to about 10 yards in front of the net that Dieuvit Emmanuel Mbavumoja (Kisangani, Congo/Groupe Scolaire Sainte Marie-Inst. Chololo) headed in.
Four minutes later Raymonds corralled another ball and put a precision pass on the foot of Hozai Ceballos(Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) who knocked it past the keeper for his first goal of the season and 3-0 lead.

Things really got interesting after some subbing by both teams. Beginning at 73:44 on the clock, three goals were scored in a matter of one minute and 38 seconds. Two of the goals were scored by Millikin and the other by Brad Ludwig (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) of the Warhawks, and suddenly it was 4-2 with less than fifteen minutes to play.
After some more substitutions, the Warhawks held on for the last fifteen minutes to win the match 4-2.
Prior to Wednesday's match, Lucatorto and the Warhawk defense hadn't given up a goal in 375 minutes and four seconds. With Millikin's first goal on Wednesday the streak came to an end at 448 minutes and 47 seconds, the fourth longest streak in school history.

Lucatorto played the first 66:43 of the match and the final 11:14 and made three saves to earn the win. Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) played the middle 12:03 and relinquished the two Millikin goals.
This was the final regular season home game for the Warhawks who recognized their seniors, Lucatorto and Jeremy Cohen (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills), at halftime.
Up next UW-W will travel to Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, October 15 to play No. 12 North Park University in a match at 1 p.m.
