BW Men's Soccer Falls Late to Mount Union
ALLIANCE, Ohio – In the team's final regular season road game, the Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the University of Mount Union in Ohio Athletic Conference action inside Mount Union Stadium.
The first half passed rather uneventfully with neither team really able to get the offense going. Shots were few and far between but Mount Union (11-3-1, 4-3-1 OAC) made their few looks count as all three Purple Raider shots in the period were on goal. BW (7-9-2, 2-5-1 OAC) got off five shots in the first half but only one was on goal – junior midfielder Kurt Raney's (Mentor) look in the 32nd minute.
Following halftime, the game continued in much of the same fashion – both teams battling for possession and taking very few shots. Mount Union finally broke through the stalemate in the 80th minute and seemed to carry all the momentum en route to a possible 1-0 shutout. Senior forward Logan Davis (Hinckley/Medina Highland) came up with his first goal of the season and ruined the Purple Raiders' clean sheet in the 86th minute, tying the game at 1-1. With a complete 180-degree turn in momentum and overtime looming, Mount Union found the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, eliminating the Yellow Jackets postseason chances.
In the net, junior goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made three saves in only five shots on goal he faced all night. Only 19 shots were taken between the two teams on the night – 10 by the Purple Raiders and nine by the Yellow Jackets.
BW will conclude the 2018 season on Saturday, Oct. 27, when the Yellow Jackets host Marietta College for Seniors' and Parents' Day at 2 p.m. inside George Finnie Stadium.
