Baruch Defeats Lehman in CUNYAC Semifinal, Play CSI Saturday for Title & NCAA Berth
The Baruch College Bearcats scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Lehman, 2-0, in the semifinal round of the CUNYAC Championship on Tuesday evening at the Brooklyn College Athletic Complex.
Alexey Arefev broke the scoreless semifinal in the 70th minute with a penalty kick and Shaiem Allah Morad added the second goal on a through ball assist by Natari Mohammed in the 79th minute to help clinch a spot in Saturday's Championship against Staten Island (4:30 p.m. at Brooklyn College).
Goalkeeper Kellen Sela had two saves for a playoff shutout.
Overall, the Bearcats out-shot last year's champions, 14-10.
"It was a tough match out there and the players just kept pushing and pushing for the goal," said Head Coach Dima Kamenshchik. "We finally broke through late and worked hard to get that second goal a short time later to clinch the win. Tonight, we enjoy the win but tomorrow we go back to the drawing board and get ready for Saturday."
Morad led the Bearcats with three shots, while Ricardo Llanos and Jaime Zurro had two each.
Three different players had two shots each for Lehman, who finish their season with a 6-10-2 record.
