Halsema Transitions To Role With Dominican Men’s Soccer
"Jeff is a valuable member of our full-time staff," commented Erick Baumann, Director of Athletics and head men's soccer coach at Dominican. "He is extremely passionate about Dominican University and has done a fantastic job rebuilding our women's soccer program while growing into a talented, young administrator."
In six seasons, Halsema posted a 71-43-6 record as the Stars' head coach, setting the program record for wins this fall with a 15-5-1 record while appearing in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament championship match for the third time in four years. During his tenure, the Stars went 51-14-2 in the NAC, with a pair of second-place finishes. In 2009, the NAC recognized Halsema with the conference's Coach of the Year award. The 30-year old Halsema is currently the program's all-time leader in wins and winning percentage, boasting a .617 career winning percentage in 120 career games.
Halsema joins the men's soccer team he competed with from 1999-2002, earning Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference (NIIC) Player of the Year honors in 2002. That season the Stars began a string of nine consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament, posting a program-best Final Four finish in 2009.
The addition of Halsema to the men's soccer coaching staff will allow for an expanded men's soccer roster beginning with the 2011 fall season.
"This is a great opportunity for me to not only get back into the men's game," said Halsema, "but join a team that is recognized nationally and has a rich tradition and history. I am grateful for the opportunity to join such a competitive program."
