RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith Avenging Angels notched their third shutout of the season and first in conference play with a 3-0 victory over newcomer LaGrange College.

Meredith improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. LaGrange (6-3) dropped their second straight USA South match with the loss.

The Avenging Angels maintained control much of the first 45 minutes thanks to defenders Carrie Talbert, Annah Kane, and Megan Luke, who established a wall in the backfield to fend off the first half attacks from LaGrange. And keeper Kelsey Hopper closed the gap with all three of her saves in the first period.

Towards the end of a quiet half, Jessie Davis finally snuck one past the Panther keeper to put Meredith on the board at 38:28. She was assisted by Taylor Brown on the play.

LaGrange escaped the Meredith defense in the final two minutes of the period before Luke ended the breakaway opportunity with a slide kick to the end zone. MC protected the box on the corner kick to enter the break up by one.

After the intermission, the Meredith offense jumped on the visitors quickly with a goal from Raleigh native Anna Smither off a corner kick from Davis.

LaGrange goalie Chelsea Totaro finished with 13 saves on the day.

The Avenging Angels complete this home tour hosting Piedmont College at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. The Lions enter the contest 6-2 overall, 1-1 in USA South action.
