Avenging Angels Win Third Straight

More news about: Meredith women's team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - After a scoreless first period, the Meredith Avenging Angels scored three goals within six minutes to defeat USA South host Methodist University 3-0 in today's women's soccer contest.

Today marks Meredith's third consecutive win in a 9-3 season overall, 5-1 among league opponents. MU dropped to 5-9 overall and an even 3-3 in the USA South.

Meredith maintained control of the ball much of the game with 14 shots to the Monarchs 8. Jessie Davis fired five of seven corner kicks to just one from MU to pressure the goal.

After a dozen minutes of solid effort from both teams, Davis powered a shot past Methodist keeper Taylor Ross to give Meredith a 1-0 lead in the second half.

Senior midfielder Kimberly Williams found the back of the net just three minutes later with help from Rachel Didier.

In spite of aggressive defense from the Monarchs, Meredith's Megan Luke found Carrie Talbert open for another quick score to secure the conference road win.

Avenging Angels starting goalie Kelsey Hopper and freshman reliever Shyanne Stone picked up a save apiece in the win.

Ross tallied eight saves in 11 attempts on the day.

The Meredith squad closes out their fall break with a non-league match versus Randolph College Sunday, October 7. First kick is slated for Noon in Lynchburg. Follow the game live from
