More news about: Dickinson women's team

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer team opened the 2012 season with a big win, rolling past Penn State Harrisburg, 9-1, in the opening round of the Red Devil Classic. Wooster College held off Marywood University in the second game, 1-0.

Sophomore Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) broke through the defense in the 10th minute, putting the Devils on the board early. Classmate Jess Swain (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) tallied back-to-back goals as the Devils used brilliant passing, recording a pair of double-assists.

Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) connected with Young to set up Swain's first strike before first-years Nicole Fronsdahl (Groton, Mass./Groton) and Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) created the second opportunity to stretch the lead to, 3-0, in the 33rd minute.

The Lions capitalized on a great lead pass from Rachel Stetler to give Fay Ansary a great look to answer in the 39th minute.

Lamb finished a cross from junior Edie Riggs (Frederick, Md./Linganore) with 50 seconds on the clock to give the Devils a 4-1 advantage at the break. Lamb added another assist and a second goal to cap a great collegiate debut. She joined Savoie for another double-assist to the foot of Olivia Licata (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) in the 60th minute.

Licata returned the favor, assisting Lamb on a corner kick to extend the lead to 6-1. Riggs made a great run to finish a nice cross from first-year Michaela Donohue (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville). Donahue struck off an assist from classmate Hannah Matlack (Needhan, Mass./Noble & Greenough), less than a minute later.

First-year Erin Sutphen (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) closed out the day for Dickinson, finding the net with an assist from junior Chelsea Johnson (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) with just over a minute remaining in the game.

Senior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made three saves to earn the win in goal for the Devils. Mackenzie Gates made 12 saves in goal for the Lions.

The Red Devils will host Marywood on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Penn State Harrisburg and Wooster meet at 12:00 pm.
