Albion Goalkeeper Tested Often At Saint Mary's
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Albion goalkeeper Mackenzie Hurlburt stopped seven shots, but Maggie Wenzel got a step on a defender and scored the only goal as Saint Mary's eked out a 1-0 result over the Britons in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer contest.
Playing with the wind at their back for much of the second half, Saint Mary's went on the attack. Eight minutes into the period, Mollie Valencia slotted a pass from the center of the field to her right where Wenzel picked up the pass in-stride, and sent home the shot from inside the 18-yard box.
The Belles pushed for another goal, but each of their following three shots on goal were pushed aside by Hurlburt.
Amanda Allen took Albion's only shot in the contest, but it was not on goal.
Albion will play at home for the final time this season Wednesday when it challenges Trine University.
