No. 1 Montclair State Rolls Past Ramapo to Complete Undefeated Regular Season

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team made some history on Wednesday evening as the top-ranked Red Hawks rolled past Ramapo 9-0 at MSU Soccer Park to cap off their regular-season undefeated.

Senior Jessica Kiniery (Branchburg, NJ, Somerville) had a hat trick and also added an assist as Montclair, ranked first by D3Soccer.com and sixth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, improved to 17-0 on the season and finished its NJAC perfect for the first time in school history.

In a year of many firsts for the program, the women's soccer team registered the 10th undefeated regular-season in Montclair State athletic history joining four football squads (1947, 1960, 1964 & 1982), the 1971 men's cross country team, 1989 men's lacrosse team, 2008 men's soccer team and 1970-71 and 2012-13 women's basketball teams as the only groups to go through their schedule of games without a loss.

Montclair also set a new single-season mark with its 15th shutout of the season surpassing the previous mark of 14 set during the 2000 campaign. The Red Hawks also tied the season record for victories set by the same team during its ECAC Championship run.

Montclair scored four times in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Junior Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) put the Red Hawks on the board 3:02 into the match as Kiniery played a ball in the middle of the box and flicked a pass to Fasano who buried the ball inside the left post for her seven the of the season. Junior Jessica Bonjione (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) made it a 2-0 lead 84 seconds later picking up a loose ball off a free kick.

Kiniery, who collected her second hat trick of the year, scored twice in a span of 22 second staking the Red Hawks to a 4-0 advantage. Junior Kerry Glynn (Old Bridge, NJ, Old Bridge) picked up the assist on the first goal with Fasano setting up the latter as Kiniery collected her eighth and ninth of the season.

Freshman Jennie Hornstra (Clifton, NJ, Clifton) scored twice to close out the first half as Montclair State led 6-0 at the break. Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) and Kendel Bernardini (Elmer, NJ, Schalick) each had goals in the second half before Kiniery, one of four seniors honored before the game capped off the scoring with her 10th goal of the season.

Montclair State outshot the Roadrunners 15-1 in the game.

Goalkeepers Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick), Meghan Calcaterra (Madison, NJ, Madison) and Rachel King (Broomes Island, MD, Calvert), who had one save, combined on the shutout for the Red Hawks, who lead Division III in goals against average and shutout percentage (15 in 17 games).

Montclair State, the defending NJAC champion, will now be off before hosting an NJAC Tournament semifinal on Tuesday, November 5 as the Red Hawks will face either No. 5 seed Kean University or fourth-seeded Richard Stockton at 7:00 pm.
