Trinity Women's Soccer Blanks Eastern Connecticut For Fourth Straight Win

Mansfield, Conn. - Sophomores Alexandra Lansbury (Brookline, Mass.) and Tricia Pollock (Beverly, Mass.) scored eight minutes apart midway through the second half to carry the Trinity College Bantams to a 2-0 women's soccer victory over the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors this evening at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.  The win is the fourth in a row for Trinity which improves to 6-5-1, while Eastern Connecticut falls to 5-6-3.  The Bantams visit New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Middlebury on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Lansbury scored her first career goal in the 64th minute off a throw-in from senior Alexa Barbaresi (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Pollock connected on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute when freshman forward Samantha March (Glastonbury, Conn.) was taken down hard on a run through the left side of the box by Eastern's last defender.  Lansbury stopped Barbaresi's one-hop throw-in on the right side, turned to her left, carried toward the near post, and slid a shot across the goal line under the dive of Warrior junior keeper Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton, Mass.).  Labrecque guessed correctly on Pollock's penalty kick, and dove to her right but the well-place drive eluded her outstretched hands and settled inside the left post.

In a scoreless first half, Trinity had two near-misses in a span of less than three minutes late in the half. One shot from above the box sailed just over the top with 10:30 left. With eight minutes left, sophomore back Rhone O'Hara (Woodstock, Conn.) won a ball, dribbled right and layed it off to a Pollock, whose cross into the box sailed wide.  The Warriors nearly took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Aly Clarke (Mystic, Conn.) unloaded a drive directly at freshman keeper Taylor O'Connor (Danvers, Mass.). O'Connor hauled it in, but lost possession and had to scramble back to cover up the ball just inches shy of the goal line.

Less than two minutes after Lansbury's goal, Labrecque kept it a one-goal game when she denied a bid by freshman Blake Crawley (Laguna Beach, Calif.) on a point-blank shot front the left side. Labrecque added another impressive save when she dove outstretched to her right to knock away Pollock's hard shot from the top of the box with 18 minutes left.  In her third career start, O'Connor made six saves for her second win and her first career shutout. Labrecque was also credited with six saves.  Trinity outshot Eastern, 15-7, and was credited with four of the game's five corner kicks.
