Bolas, Trice Earn Women's Soccer All-SAA Honorable Mention
The Oglethorpe women's soccer team saw a pair of players earn All-SAA Honorable Mention from the league's coaches on Monday, as freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas and sophomore forward Kayla Trice took home the honor. It marks the first career All-SAA nod for Bolas and the second consecutive for Trice.
Bolas proved to be one of the best goalkeepers in the league over the course of her freshman campaign. She finished the season third in the league in saves with 74, and came in tied for fourth with four wins. She also tallied a .725 save percentage on the season. She won SAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 16 after allowing just one goal in two SAA games the previous weekend. She shut out Millsaps over the 70 minutes she was in the contest in a 3-0 Stormy Petrel victory on Oct. 13. She also earned her first career shutout in her team's 0-0 tie at Hendrix earlier in the season.
This marks the second straight year in which Trice has earned All-SAA Honorable Mention accolades. This season, she scored four goals and passed out an assist for nine total points. Both the goals and the points place her in the league's top 20. She scored two goals in the Petrels' 3-0 victory over Millsaps in October, marking the second two-goal game of her career. The other also came against Millsaps in a 2-1 victory over the Majors in Jackson, Mississippi, on Oct. 16, 2016.
"I'm happy for both Lindsey and Kayla, and I'm very glad that they're being recognized for their efforts over the course of the season," said Oglethorpe head coach Wes Anania. "It is exciting to have two more years to coach Kayla and three more years to coach Lindsey. They're both outstanding players who will be an integral part of this team's move up the conference standings in the coming years."
