Midwest Roundup - Week 9

By Jordan Vejar

Week nine saw many team’s regular and conference seasons come to an end. All other teams across the region will be finishing up the regular season this week and conference tournaments will be in full swing. Across the region, many sides are hitting their peaks and making clear statements that they belong in postseason play. The quest to the D-III National Tournament will begin very soon!

ILLINOIS

Lake Forest (9-7-1 / 7-1-0) picked up two big Midwest Conference wins against Illinois College and Ripon last week. This began another winning streak for the Foresters, which is at two games in a row. Lake Forest has had no issue scoring goals by outscoring their opponents 8-2 in two games. Coach Andrews and his side will travel to Lawrence this weekend to conclude their regular season play before the postseason begins.

OHIO

John Carroll (13-2-2 / 6-0-1) extended their winning streak to five games last week with two OAC wins over Baldwin Wallace and Marietta. The Blue Streaks are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak and have outscored their opponents 16-2. Coach Marinaro and his team will face Heidelberg and Wilmington this week to close out the regular season in two crucial OAC matches.

KENTUCKY

Centre (13-3-1 / 6-1-0) extended their winning streak to seven games while capturing a massive win over Sewanee on senior day and the final day of SAA play. The win secured the Colonels the two seed in their conference tournament. Centre will begin SAA tournament play by hosting Birmingham-Southern in the opening round. Coach Burch and his side will aim to defend their title as SAA Tournament Champions.

INDIANA

Wabash (10-4-2 / 5-1-1) started a winning streak of their own last week by knocking off Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan in NCAC play. The win against Ohio Wesleyan was the first time in program history dating back to 1977 that the Little Giants took down the Bishops. Coach Keller and his team will travel to DePauw midweek and then to Oberlin on the weekend to cap off the regular season. The Little Giants will aim to continue their winning ways and hitting their stride at the right time of the year.

IOWA

Central (14-2-2 / 6-1-1) concluded their regular season by taking down Coe and Buena Vista in the final two A-R-C matches. The Dutch secured the program’s first ever conference title after the win on Saturday. This was a big turnaround after the last two 3-5-0 seasons for Central in conference play. Coach Laidlaw and his side will have some extra time to rest as they have a bye in the first round of the conference tournament, which will kick off this weekend.

MICHIGAN

Hope (12-5-0 / 5-1-0) are riding a five-game winning streak after defeating Alma and Trine last week in MIAA play. The Dutch will travel to Adrian to finish the regular season before they turn their sights to postseason play. Coach Brandt and his team have outscored opponents 21-3 during the winning streak and will strive to continue strong form on both sides of the ball to close out the regular season.
