Brooklyn athletics has announced the hiring of Patrick Horne as the head coach of the new women's soccer program.

“We are very excited to add someone with the quality and experience of Coach Horne,” said athletic director Bruce Filosa. “We are looking forward to the upcoming season and the start of a new phase of BC Athletics.”

Horne brings a plethora of coaching and playing experience, which will be vital to the success of growing the team that will begin play this fall.

Horne most recently served as head women's soccer coach at Division II Concordia (N.Y.) from 2007-11. While at Concordia, Horne recruited, trained and mentored student-athletes as part of developing the women's program.

Prior to Concordia, Horne spent one season (2006) as an assistant coach of the women's team at Division II Molloy in Rockville Center, N.Y., where he assisted in the overall preparation of the team, which culminated in Molloy making its first postseason appearance in the East Coast Conference.

Other collegiate coaching stints for Horne include Globe Institute of Technology (head men's coach, 2002-2006), Southampton College (head men's coach, 2001) and SUNY Old Westbury (head men's coach, 1997-2000).

"It is a very rare occasion that one gets the opportunity to start a soccer program from scratch at a prestigious academic institution such as Brooklyn College," said Horne. "I intend to extend Brooklyn College's exemplary academic reputation to the new women's soccer program and look forward to the challenge of making the Bulldogs the most successful in the CUNYAC. I thank athletic director Bruce Filosa and his staff for giving me the opportunity to add to Brooklyn College's prestigious history."

Along with his extensive coaching resume at the college level, Horne has also spent time coaching at the youth level. Horne was the head coach of the LIJSL Boys Select Teams U-15, U-17, as well as the head coach of the Baldwin Eagles Girls U-14 through U-17. Most recently, Horne has spent time as a youth coach for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS.

Prior to entering the coaching profession, Horne played professionally in both the North American Soccer League and the American Soccer League.

Horne received his bachelor's degree in mass communications from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville where he was a four-year member of the men's soccer team. He helped lead the team to a runner-up finish in the 1975 NCAA Division I Tournament.

Horne also has a master's in education from Alfred and is a New York State certified English teacher. He is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) B License.
