The first half was even, with the Yellowjackets carrying the majority of the play before fading late. In the second half, they again carried the play, but were unable to break through and fell 2-0 to the defending league champions.
In the first half, the Yellowjackets carried the play early but were unable to break through on offense. An injury to sophomore John Levenick (Champlin, Minn.) caused a delay in game play, and the Yellowjackets watched their momentum fall off. Following the injury, in the 40th minute, the Titans got an unassisted goal on a corner kick from Garrett O'Brien to make it 1-0. The Titans outshot the Yellowjackets 6-2 in the first half. In the second half the Yellowjackets again picked up their momentum and for stretches controlled the play, yet they were unable to solve the Titans' defense. Oshkosh made it 2-0 at 56:43 when Tony Starnes drove a shot home from about 35 yards out.
Alberto Rivero (Santander, Spain) and Logan George (Ramsey, Minn.) led the Yellowjackets with two shots each.
Nick Osborn (Rosemount, Minn.) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets and took the loss, finishing the game with three saves. James Pike also made three saves for the Titans to pick up the shutout.
The Yellowjackets (3-2, 0-1 WIAC) will return to non-conference action and take on St. Olaf College on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Duluth East High School Soccer Field.
