Warhawks Too Much For Yellowjackets
Whitewater 3, Yellowjackets 0
It was a tale of two halves for the Yellowjacket men's soccer team on Saturday, and unfortunately for them, they just weren't able to dig themselves out of the early hole they put themselves in, and they fell 3-0 to UW-Whitewater at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth.
Whitewater controlled the play in the opening half, but the Yellowjackets rebounded in a big way, outshooting the Warhawks 10-6 in the half, but they were unable to generate enough offense to score.
Austin Saari opened the scoring for the Warhawks, directing home a corner kick at 10:38 of the first half to make it 1-0. The Whitewater lead would stretch to 2-0 at 59:50 on a Jonathon Fisher unassisted goal. The Warhawks closed out the scoring when Alex Szarzynski scored in the final minute on a penalty kick to make the final margin 3-0.
Alex Elder (New Hope, Minn.) got the start and took the loss for the Yellowjackets, finishing with three saves. Aaron Sesselmann got the shutout for the Warhawks, making four saves. Four different Yellowjackets had shots on goal in the match.
The Yellowjackets (8-4, 2-2 WIAC) return to action on Wednesday, October 12 in the border battle, when they will take on the College of St. Scholastica at Public Schools Stadium. The match will get underway at 8:00 p.m.
