On Saturday, the Yellowjackets took to the home field at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth, celebrating homecoming and hoping to pick up their tenth win of the year and even their conference record for the year.  After a tight and scoreless first half, the Yellowjackets blew the game open early in the second half en rout to a 3-0 win over UW-Platteville.

The Yellowjackets have now beaten the Pioneers twice on the year.

After a scoreless opening half, the Yellowjackets were finally able to get on the board in the 57th minute.  The combination of Logan George (Ramsey, Minn.) and Alberto Rivero (Santander, Spain), which has joined forces before in 2011, did so again with George setting up Rivero for his fifth goal of the season to make it 1-0 Yellowjackets at 56:08.  Rivero is now tied for the team lead with five goals.  Just over a minute later at 57:14 the Yellowjackets stretched the lead to 2-0 when Thomas Shuldheisz (Andover, Minn.) found the back of the net.  Ben Royce (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Eric Nilsen (Duluth, Minn.) picked up the assists.  Shuldheisz wasn't done, however, as he would score a very important insurance goal, his second of the match and fifth of the season at 81:53 to make the final result 3-0.  Alex Young (Woodbury, Minn.) had the lone assist on Shuldheisz's second marker.

From there, the Yellowjacket defense took over, clamping down and assuring that freshman goalkeeper Matt Elder (New Hope, Minn.) would pick up his fourth shutout of the season.  Elder is now 7-3-2 on the season.  Jared Kuehl made five saves for Platteville, as the Yellowjackets had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The Yellowjackets (10-5-2, 3-3 WIAC) hit the field again on Tuesday, October 25, when they will be in Mankato, Minn. to take on Bethany Lutheran College at 7:00 p.m.
