Wesley Dethrones Eastern Mennonite
DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's soccer team defeated Eastern Mennonite, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium. Senior Pat Slinka was credited with the game-winner while his classmate, Joshua Chelleh, recorded assists on both Wolverine goals.
A solid defensive outing by the Navy & White allowed the Royals to take just eight shots, with only one on target. Brian Zuber got the call in goal for Wesley, and got the win without making a save.
Jacob Yaeger put the Wolverines (2-5-2) on top in the eighth minute as he headed in a corner kick by Chelleh at 7:17. With just over ten minutes left in the first half, Chelleh took a free kick just inside the end-line from 20 yards out, and his ball found the head of his fellow co-captain, Slinka, giving Wesley a 2-0 advantage.
Eastern Mennonite (6-4-1) was able to get on the board at 49:14, but it was not enough to over the Navy & White.
Wesley (2-5-2) returns to the pitch on September 29, when they host Frostburg State in a pivotal Capital Athletic Conference matchup. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm.
