Garvey's two goals help Centre men to 3-1 win at Hendrix
The Centre men's soccer team picked up its third straight win with a 3-1 victory over Hendrix in a Southern Athletic Association game Friday in Conway, Ark.
Senior Ryan Garvey (Louisville, Ky.) continues to play a big part in the Colonels' offense, scoring two of the team's goals while assisting on the other. Garvey has five goals and 11 points in Centre's last three games with his 13 goals on the season moving him to third on Centre's all-time list.
It was Garvey who got the scoring started with an unassisted goal from outside the right corner of the box in the 13th minute. Just seven minutes later, Austin Greer (Bowling Green, Ky.) scored off an assist from Garvey to put Centre up 2-0.
After the Colonels took that 2-0 lead to halftime, Will Dunaway answered with a goal just four minutes into the second half, but it would be the only score Hendrix would manage on the night. With less than seven minutes to play, Garvey added some breathing room for the Colonels by putting back the rebound of his own shot for a 3-1 lead.
Overall, Hendrix took 19 shots to Centre's 14, though each team put six of those on goal. Zach Sosnovich (Woodbridge, N.J.) made four saves for Centre while Marco Luna had three stops in goal for Hendrix.
With the victory, Centre improves to 11-3-1 on the season with a 4-1 record in the SAA. Hendrix falls to 9-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference. The Colonels return to action with a trip to Rhodes on Sunday.
