Brooklyn Blanks Sarah Lawrence on Senior Night
Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team completed its 2012 regular season with a 5-0 shutout victory coming against the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College tonight in a non-conference matchup at Brooklyn College Field.
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Pape Dione, Alwyn Adams, Denton Laing and Pajtim Gjonbalaj were all recognized for their hard work and dedication to the BC Men's Soccer team as part of Senior Night honors.
With the win, BC finishes the regular season with an 11-4-2 overall record, while Sarah Lawrence falls to 2-11 overall on the season. The win also extends Brooklyn's win streak to six straight, as the Bulldogs complete the regular season with an undefeated home record going 7-0-1 during their inaugural season at Brooklyn College Field.
The Bulldogs are currently undefeated in the month of October and hold a 10-1-2 record over their last 13 games.
Brooklyn would get on the board early, as freshman Oleg Tykhonravov took a cross from junior Taras Frankivskyy in the box to knock home the opening score of the game in the fourth minute of action. The Gryphons would nearly tie the game at 1-1 just a few minutes later, as Ishaan Pujari rocketed a shot that bounced off the crossbar.
Despite holding a 13-2 shot advantage in the first half, the Bulldogs would head into the intermission break up 1-0. Sarah Lawrence's goalkeeper, Juan Sucre, helped keep the visitors in the game, as he registered six saves in the opening half.
BC would continue to push the offensive tempo in the second half and would eventually break the game open, as the Bulldogs tallied four goals in the second stanza en route to their 5-0 win.
Juniors Dmitry Prokofyev and Peter Vavalle, sophomore Dedou Toure and Gjonbalaj all recorded goals in the second half. Gjonbalaj, freshman Steve Orellana and junior Peterson Petit Frere all assisted on the second half goals as well.
The Bulldogs split time with their goalkeepers, as junior Stamatis Boundouris played the first half, while sophomore Saul Gonzalez Perez came in to play the second half, as the duo combined for the shutout win. The BC defense was stellar all night, as the Gryphons were unable to get a shot on goal all night.
Sucre played all 90 minutes in net, recording 13 saves, while allowing five goals. The Gryphons were outshot 43-5 for the game, as Brooklyn also held a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs will now look towards the 2012 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Applebee's Men's Soccer Championships, as Brooklyn, the #2 seed after posting a 5-1-2 record in conference play, will host the #7 seeded Hunter College Hawks on Wednesday, October 24th at 4:00 pm at BC Field. If Brooklyn defeats Hunter, they will advance to the semifinals round, scheduled for Saturday, October 27th at Randall's Island.
