#2 Brooklyn Moves Past #7 Hunter 2-0; Head To CUNYAC Semifinal Round
Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team, the #2 seed in the CUNYAC / Applebee's Tournament, got past their quarterfinal round opponent with relative ease on Wednesday evening as they shutout the visiting #7 seeded Hunter College Hawks, 2-0.
The Bulldogs dominated much of the play and outshot the Hawks 21-10 for the game to advance to the semfinal on Saturday, October 27th. Brooklyn will take on to the #3 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York, who defeated the #6 seeded Lehman College Lightning via a shootout. That game will take place at Randall's Island Field #10 at 7:00 pm.
Brooklyn and CCNY tied 1-1 in their regular season matchup back on Septemeber 19th at BC Field.
For BC, this is their first appearance in the CUNYAC semifinals since 2008.
With the win, Brooklyn improved their overall record to 12-4-2 and extended their win streak to seven. The team also continued their undefeated season on their home field, improving their mark at Brooklyn College Field to 8-0-1 on the season.
Brooklyn got both their scores in the first half of play as freshman Oleg Tykhonravov got the Bulldogs in the 33rd minute of play with junior Dmitry Prokofyev assisting on the goal. Just minutes later, sophomore Dedou Toure found Prokofyev, who scored on a header to give his team the 2-0 advantage.
After the scores, BC would toughen up their defense and not allow much daylight for the Hawks, who could only muster up two shots on goal on the afternoon, both resulting in saves by Brooklyn goalkeeper junior Stamatis Boundouris.
For Boundouris and the Bullldogs, it was the fourth straight shutout. In fact, the team has only allowed 16 goals on the season.
Hunter ends their season with a 2-14-2 overall record, a far cry from a semifinal appearance a year ago and a CUNYAC title in 2010.

If BC can get past CCNY, the Bulldogs will advance to the championship final, which will be played on Saturday, November 3rd. The game will also be held at Randall's Island Field #10 with a 7:00 pm start time.
