Brooklyn's Ostrowski and Benitez Earn CUNYAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors
Flushing, NY --- Brooklyn College junior goalkeeper Kamil Ostrowski and freshman midfield/forward Kenny Benitez both earned City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) weekly awards; as Ostrowski was named the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, while Benitez was named the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
For the week, BC defeated New Jersey City University, 2-0, and fell to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 4-1, in the second annual College of Staten Island Fall Classic to begin the 2013 season.
"Kamil and Kenny have worked very hard from the first day of pre-season and it certainly showed in thier efforts against NJCU and MIT," said Head Coach Rawle Hensford. "They were both critical players in the success we had."
In the Bulldogs' season opener against NJCU on Friday, August 30th, Ostrowski, making his BC debut, was vital in the Bulldogs' 2-0 victory, tallying six saves playing all 90 minutes in goal, en route to his first career shutout. For the week, Ostrowksi totaled 180 minutes in net, to go along with 15 saves, a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .789 save percentage.
Benitez also played a huge role in Brooklyn's win over NJCU, as he found the back of the net for his first career goal. The goal would also end up accounting for the eventual game-winner.
Brooklyn (1-1) returns to action on Friday, September 6th, when the Bulldogs will play host to New York University for BC's 2013 home opener. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start time.
