Early advantage fails to hold up against Kean

More news about: Haverford men's team

HAVERFORD, Pa. - A Ford Bohrmann goal in the seventh minute gave Haverford College the early lead Sunday at Walton Field but Kean University rallied with a pair of second-half goals to down the host Fords, 2-1, in a non-conference men's soccer match-up that closed out the annual Jimmy Mills Classic.

Haverford, ranked 14th in the most recent national poll, suffers its first defeat of the season falling to 3-1 on the year while Kean ups its record to 4-1 with the victory.

Bohrmann's goal, his sixth of the year, came at the 6:38 mark when Jamie Reingruber chipped a pass from the left of the Kean goal to Bohrmann at the front where he easily volleyed a shot into the back of the net behind Cougar netminder Tyler Callahan.

The Fords owned momentum following the early score but Kean eventually found its game and, though it didn't find the tying goal, finished the half even with Haverford in both shots, 6-6, and corner kick opportunities, 4-4.

Early second-half action tilted back toward Haverford with the home team generating several scoring chances but failing to get shots onto frame. Kean finally found some momentum and the equalizer when Dominick Delello evened the score in the 63rd, knocking in a loose ball from in the box into the right of the goal after play had moved toward the left post.

The game looked to be heading into overtime late in regulation but the Cougars picked up a goal from Akwasi Adu off a corner kick chance in the 87th.

Kean's Callahan earned the win between the pipes making three saves, all in the first half, while the Fords' Nick Kahn took the loss after coming up with two saves apiece in each half.

The early game Sunday saw Vassar College defeat Ursinus College by a count of 3-1.

Haverford continues early-season non-conference play with its next outing, a 4:30 p.m. home contest on Thursday, Sept. 12 against Rosemont College at Walton Field.
