Brooklyn Downs NYU-Poly, 3-0
Brooklyn, NY --- Brooklyn College senior Dmitry Prokofyev notched two goals in leading the BC Men's Soccer team to a 3-0 shutout victory over borough rival NYU-Poly.
The win snaps the Bulldogs' two-game losing streak, as BC moves to an even 2-2 on the year; while the Fighting Blue Jays fall to 0-3 overall.
The first half featured a tight contest, as both teams looked for the first goal of the game. The Bulldogs would be the first team to break through and get on the board, when Prokofyev controlled a loose ball in the box and beat the keeper to put BC up 1-0 in the 40th minute.
Brooklyn would add another goal before the halftime break, when senior Taras Frankivskyy knocked home his first goal of the season off of a free kick in the 44th minute.
The Bulldogs would continue to set the offensive tone in the second half and would add a third and final goal in the 73rd minute, when Prokofyev once again controlled a loose ball in the box to record his second goal of the game and third overall on the year.
Senior Stamatis Boundouris, making his first start of the season, played all 90 minutes in goal, while registering two saves, en route to the shutout win. Paul Lima played the first 75:57 of the game for NYU-Poly in goal, allowing three goals and recording eight saves. Rishi Sarkar finished the final 14:03 and came up with a pair of saves in net.
"We showed a sense of hunger and determination throughout the game," said head coach Rawle Hensford. "We deserved the victory and we hope to build on this result."
Brooklyn returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 18th, when the Bulldogs will host Farmingdale Sate College. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 pm start at BC Field.
