WNEC's Heather Mortell selected to play in New England Senior All-Star contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College forward Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) has been selected to play in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior All-Star Game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 4) at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

The All-Star game features Division I, II, and III players competing on each team.

"This is a great honor for Heather. For the past four years, she has been one of our top players. She has received several regional and conference awards, both academically and athletically, and has been a terrific leader for our program" said Western New England College women's soccer coach Ron Dias.

Mortell ranks among the program's all-time leading scorers with 90 points (37 goals, 16 assists) in 85 matches.

A Biomedical Engineering major, she was named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Academic Team and ESPN the Magazine District 1 Team last year. Mortell also was an All-Conference selection.

With Mortell helping to lead the way, Western New England College posted a 13-9 record this fall and finished third in conference play with a 10-3 mark.
