Young Mariners Stumble on Sunday

More news about: Maine Maritime women's team

BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's women fell 6-0 to Emmanuel at the Husson Soccer Classic on Sunday. It was the Mariners (0-2) second loss by that score this weekend.

Amanda Roberts scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to power the Saints' (2-0) offense, but it was Lindsey Garvey that provided the game winner, finding the net in the 20th minute. Roberts scored the first of her pair in the 35th minute to give her team a 2-0 lead. Donandrea Myette gave Emmanuel additional breathing room heading into the half, netting her second goal in as many days with just two minutes to play in the first half.

After Melanie Hoffman made it 4-0, Roberts factored in on the next pair, feeding Alexia Basile, before scoring on her own.

Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) once again did all that she could in the face of unrelenting pressure, stopping 18 of the Saints' 43 shots. Maine Maritime was able to get one shot off.

The Mariners will get a chance to correct their course on Wednesday evening when Maine-Machias visits Ritchie Field. Live video will be available on MarinerSports.org.
