The strong start to the season continued on Tuesday for the Yellowjacket women's soccer team, and the victim this time around was Northland College.  The Yellowjackets scored early, and often, routing the Lumberjills 6-1 at the Superior High School Soccer Complex.  The Yellowjackets have won two in a row and have outscored their opponents 11-2 in the two wins.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring early, at 2:05 when Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn.) scored her second goal of the year on an assist from Savannah Schramm (Carlton, Minn.) to make it 1-0.  The score stayed that way until 11th minute when Ashley Runge tied it for the Lumberjills.  The Yellowjackets took the lead for good in the 18th minute when Chelsea Cossin (Hermantown, Minn.) knocked the ball past Northland's goalkeeper and went in alone to score her third goal of the year, making it 2-1.  Sarah Johnson (Cloquet, Minn.) had the assist.  Before the end of the first half, Schramm would net her first goal of the year to make it 3-1.  Senior Mandee Akason (Pine Island, Minn.) had the assist.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets dialed up the pressure, keeping the Lumberjills reeling while outshooting them 10-2 and outscoring them 3-0.  Cossin scored her second of the game and fourth of the year with an assist from Jennifer Bucci (Duluth, Minn.) to make it 4-1 at 46:39.  Minutes later, at 59:05, it was Schramm's turn again, as she picked up her second of the game, unassisted, to make it 5-1.  The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring at 64:37 when Cossin completed the hat trick, on an assist from Schramm, to make it 6-1.

Cossin finished with three goals, while Schramm had two goals and two assists.  Cossin leads the team with five goals on the year, while Adams has three and Schramm two.

Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif.) was forced to make just two saves in picking up her first collegiate win, while Jessica Jaeckel made eight saves for Northland.  The Yellowjackets outshot Northland 26-8 for the game.

The Yellowjackets (2-1, 0-0 WIAC) will return to action and play their first road match of the season on Saturday, September 10 at Minnesota-Morris.  Game time is 1:00 p.m.
