Cal Lutheran Scores 10 Goals in Shutout Win
ABILENE, Tex. – Cal Lutheran women's soccer opened its two-day Texas trip scoring in double-digits for the first time this millennium. The Regals defense did not allow a shot attempt by Texas Lutheran in full time to remain undefeated this season.
Box Score: CLU 10, TLU 0 – F
Despite scoring five goals through two games the Cal Lutheran offense had done all of its damage in the second half. On Friday it took less than a minute for CLU to break through as Sinead Vaughan scored her first of the year.
Following one of two TLU own goals Regals freshman Taylor will scored her first of two goals in the match giving CLU a 3-0 lead that would hold until halftime.
After taking 12 shots in the first half Cal Lutheran fired 25 attempts in the second period. It took nearly 25 minutes but the floodgates opened once Kristina Hulse scored in the 70th minute.
The final five goals came within a seven-plus minute span with scores from Nicole Rains, Will and Kristin Cameron. The flurry was capped off by two goals from Rosemarie Lombardi with both coming in the 87th minute.
Cal Lutheran starting goalkeeper Kristin Bailey is the third straight goalkeeper to earn a victory in as many games to start the year. Texas Lutheran's Davin Crump made eight saves including six second half stops in the loss.
The Regals program record for goals scored is 14 during a shutout victory on Nov. 2, 1991 against Cal Baptist University.
The team's dominance on both sides of the ball continued on Friday. After three games Cal Lutheran has outshot the opposition 85-4 and outscored the competition 15-1. Meanwhile the defense has surrendered one shot on goal and not a single corner kick this season.
Cal Lutheran (3-0-0) will face the defending national champions Hardin-Simmons (1-1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. PST.
