Cal Lutheran Shuts Out CMS in SCIAC Opener
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The CLU women's soccer team recorded its third shutout of the season on the road defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 4-0. On her first shot taken this year senior Jen Jones scored the game-winner early on during Wednesday night's action.
Box Score: CLU 4, CMS 0 - F
CLU put away three goals in the opening 24 minutes of play while the defense allowed CMS to take only one shot in the opening half. Regals goalkeeper Renee Standage made her first collegiate save on that attempt in keeping a clean sheet for the Regals.
CLU's first half scoring came from three different individuals with Jones putting away a corner kick served in by Sinead Vaughan only 10 minutes in.
Regals newcomer Taylor Will was part of the next three goals providing the assist on Nicole Rains' score at the 23 minute mark. Only one minute later Will was the one scoring giving CLU an early 3-0 lead it would hold until halftime.
Will scored again early in the second half and currently leads this year's squad with five goals.
A second half red card for CMS made matters worse for the home side already trailing 4-0 and having to compete with only 10 players over the final 29 minutes.
All three CLU goalkeepers saw action against CMS with Renee Standage earning the start and victory after holding the Athenas scoreless through the opening 45 minutes. Tina Hedwall and Kristin Bailey split time in the second half to close the game.
