Wheaton (Ill.) tops North Park women's soccer team 4-0
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College women's soccer team opened conference play on Saturday night with a 4-0 victory against North Park University at Wheaton's Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton is now 12-0-1 on the year, with a 1-0-0 record in conference play. The Thunder will return to action on Wednesday with a match against Carthage at 4:30 PM. North Park is 5-6-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference action.
Thunder freshman Anna Seabolt gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead at the 18:34 mark of the match when she ran down a Keri Shannon pass from midfield and scored from 20 yards out. Seabolt extended the Thunder lead to 2-0 with a goal at the 26:55 mark of the contest. The goal was setup by a long Jaime Orewiler pass to Val Lelle whose initial shot rebounded to Seabolt who netted her second goal of the night. Wheaton held a 3-0 lead at halftime thanks to a goal by Shannon at the 29:39 mark of the match. Shannon's goal was setup by an Orewiler assist of the night.
Freshman Sarah Guidera extended Wheaton's lead to 4-0 at the 56:52 mark of the match with her sixth goal of the year. The goal was setup by Orewiler's third assist of the night as she ran up the left side of the field and found a wide open Guidera in front of the net for the goal.
Wheaton controlled possession throughout the match as the Thunder out-shot the Vikings 20-3 and the hosts held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Kelsey Graham started the match in goal for the Thunder, making two saves in 45 minutes of work. Hilary Barreto made one save in 45 minutes of action. North Park netminder Katie Ibarra made four saves and allowed four goals in 90 minutes in the net.
