Tough Day For Yellowjackets
Platteville 7, Yellowjackets 0
It was a tough afternoon for the Yellowjacket women's soccer team at the Superior High School Soccer Complex. After the match the team had planned to celebrate its seniors, who were playing their final home match. Unfortunately, UW-Platteville came in and made sure there was nothing further to celebrate.
A four-goal first half gave the Pioneers a lead that was insurmountable, and they would cruise to a 7-0 win.
Katie Viney scored the first of her two goals at 7:58, netting the eventual game-winning goal and making it 1-0. Anna Strasser would score in the 37th minute to make it a 2-0 score. Corey Daehling would then score a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the closing minutes of the first half to make it 4-0. Viney scored her second goal of the match in the 50th minute to make it 5-0. Marissa Mol and Sam Glowacki would close out the scoring for the Pioneers, finding the net in the 53rd and 87th minutes respectively, the latter coming on a penalty kick, to make the final score 7-0.
The Yellowjackets were outshot 29-11 in the match, and Platteville held a 17-4 edge in shots on goal. Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif.) finished with ten saves for the Yellowjackets. She is now 6-8 on the year. Jade Jandt and Molly Bender combined for the Platteville shutout.
Nichole Casler (Swartz Creek, Mich.) and Savannah Schramm (Carlton, Minn.) each had two shots on goal for the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets (7-10, 0-7 WIAC) will finish the 2011 season the road, playing two matches in the next week. They will be at Northland International on Monday, October 24 at 4:00 p.m before closing out the season on Saturday, October 29 with an 11:00 a.m. match at UW-Oshkosh.
