Wheaton (Ill.) advances to CCIW Tournament Final with a 4-0 win against Augustana in the semis
Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team defeated Augustana 4-0 on Wednesday night in a Semifinal contest of the 2011 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament. Illinois Wesleyan defeated Elmhurst 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday in the tournament's other semifinal match to advance to the Championship Match on Saturday.
Top-seeded Wheaton (18-1-1) will host second-seed Illinois Wesleyan (14-3-1) on Saturday at 7 PM at Joe Bean Stadium in the CCIW Tournament Championship Match. The winner of Saturday's match will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
Wheaton played the Vikings to a 0-0 draw tonight until the 38:38 mark of the match when freshman Anna Seabolt netted her ninth goal of the season off of a header that was assisted by Keri Shannon. Wheaton maintained its 1-0 lead at halftime.
Shannon extended Wheaton's lead to 2-0 when she put the ball in the back of the net at the 53:19 mark off of a Katelyn Kishkunas corner kick. In the 65th minute of the match, senior Jaime Orewiler distributed the ball to freshman Sarah Guidera who netted her seventh goal of the season for a 3-0 Wheaton lead. Wheaton's fourth goal was scored by Dani DeLeon from 18-yards out; thanks to a Val Lelle assist.
Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 25-9 in the match, with the Thunder owning a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeepers Kelsey Graham and Hilary Barreto each made two saves in 45 minutes of action for the Thunder to post Wheaton's 11th shutout of the season. Augustana netminder Kayla Radloff made six saves and allowed four goals in 90 minutes of work for the Vikings.
