Cobbers Make It Four Straight

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/12/11)-- Liz Robinson headed home a cross from Kelsey Swagger in the first half against St. Kate's and Concordia went on to win 1-0 in St. Paul on Wednesday. The Cobbers have now won four straight games and are 8-1-3 on the year. The victory also pushes the Cobbers' record in MIAC games to 4-1-2. CC is now in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings.

Concordia dominated the game from the onset but couldn't capitalize on their many chances. The Cobbers held a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal in the first half and hit the post on a pair of occasions. CC's lone goal of the game came in the 19th minute off of a dead ball from 35 yards out. Swagger served the ball into the penalty where Robinson was left all alone and she headed home the game winner. The goal, at the 18:14 mark, was Robinson's second of the season. "Liz looked really sharp in the game,"  commented head coach Dan Weiler. "It was one of her best games of the season and she continues to get better and better every game."

Robinson led the offense with six shots in the game. She helped a Cobber attack outshoot the Wildcats 22-8 for the 90 minutes of play. Fellow freshmen Laura Prosinski had five total shots and a game-high three shots on goal.

Weiler was also impressed with the defense as Concordia posted their sixth shutout in the last eight games. The Cobbers have only allowed three goals in the last eight contests and only a league-leading eight in their first 11 games of the season. "The defense just shut down the St. Catherine attack," said Weiler. "Ali (Nelson) had to make one big save in the first half but other than that we did a great job of stopping their offense before they could get any quality chances."

Nelson made six saves overall in the game to pick up her seventh shutout of the season. She now has 25 for her career. St. Kate's goalie Abbey Hinton stopped nine shots in the loss.

Concordia will return home to host Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. as part of the annual Homecoming celebration.
