LaBarge Propels St. Mary's Women's Soccer to Overtime Win
St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior forward Kim LaBarge (Gambrills, Md./South River) collected her first career hat trick in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team to a come-from-behind 5-4 overtime victory over the Methodist University Monarchs Saturday afternoon.
One of LaBarge's three goals ended up being the game-winning tally just 1:04 into the start of the extra period as she picked up an unassisted score to put an end to a wacky and wild game.
Methodist (1-3) quickly claimed a 1-0 lead as senior forward Kristin Habig (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) finished off a pass from fellow forward Lisa Paschal (Sanford, N.C./Western Harnett) for the early lead at 2:17. A minute and a half later it was two-goal Monarch lead as a Seahawk defender misplayed the ball back towards the goal.
St. Mary's (2-1) responded at 10:01 as junior forward Jo Rambo (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) connected with sophomore Liz Mosher (Bethesda, Md./Madeira) for her second goal of the season. A little over four minutes later, junior midfielder Yvonne Latour (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) converted a penalty kick to for the equalizer.
LaBarge then sent the Seahawks into halftime with a 3-2 advantage as she took a feed from Rambo at 20:40.
LaBarge increased her team's lead to 4-2 at 51:15 with an unassisted goal before Habig netted consecutive goals at 69:20 and 83:23 for force an extra period.
The Seahawks picked up a 16-6 shot advantage as well as a 5-1 margin in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) had two saves in the win while Sarah Hayden (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Taylor Ross (Elon, N.C./Western Albermarle) combined for four stops.
The Seahawks will look to extend their win streak to three on Tuesday, September 11 when St. Mary's travels to Westminster, Md. to face McDaniel College to Seahawk Stadium for non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
