Cronin Named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week for First Time

NORTON, Mass.- Wheaton College women's soccer senior Samantha Cronin (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday.

During Wheaton's 2-0 week, Cronin provided the Lyons with a lift against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Saturday's conference opener.  She tallied five points and the game-winner during Wheaton's 5-0 win.  Cronin recorded the winning marker 12:41 in, assisted the Lyons' third goal and successfully converted a penalty kick that gave the hosts a 4-0 edge.

Wheaton also knocked off host Husson University by a 3-0 count on Sunday.

Ranked 23rd in the country and fourth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Lyons are unbeaten through six games at 5-0-1.  On Wednesday, Wheaton hosts Tufts University in a non-league match at 4:30 p.m.
