Wade Dominants Again as Beavers Shutout Cardinals
MASBETH, N.Y. – Seniors Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade and Frances Tapia continued their historic starts to the 2012 season as the duo combined to score all three goals in the City College of New York's women's soccer team (8-2, 3-0 CUNYAC) 3-0 shutout victory over City University of New York Athletic Conference foe York College (4-7-1, 1-4 CUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon at Metropolitan Oval.
All three goals came in the first half as Wade now has 11 goals on the season while Tapia recorded her sixth goal of 2012 on a pass from Paola Ramos, her third helper of the season. Heather Ruger recorded her first assist of the season on a lofted pass over the goalkeeper's head, allowing Wade to score her second goal of the afternoon.
A foul in the box by the Cardinals eight minutes into the game allowed Wade to take a penalty kick and the shot was successful for the Rochester native as the Beavers took a 1-0 lead.
The quick start didn't end there as Tapia added a goal 20 minutes into the game on a pass from Ramos to give CCNY a 2-0 advantage. The 2012 Beavers have not lost a game in which they score at least two goals, marking Saturday's victory the eighth consecutive game that CCNY does not blow a two-goal lead.
Wade added her second goal of the game in the later stages of the first period on Ruger's pass over the goalkeeper as CCNY took a 3-0 lead, marking the win Wade's third consecutive goal performance this season.
The eight win ties a career-high for the Beavers under fourth-year head coach Don Manfria and marked the sixth shutout victory for CCNY and goalkeeper Nicole Carroll this season.
The Beavers travel to Lehman College on Wednesday, Oct. 10 for conference action at 4 PM.
