Hinton Lauded as NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week
NORTON, Mass.- Wheaton College women's soccer freshman Ali Hinton (Lafayette, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) was lauded as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday.
For six consecutive weeks, Wheaton has had at least one of its players recognized with a weekly league honor. Hinton recorded a pair of conference shutouts while extending her scoreless streak to 436:09 during the Lyons' 2-0 week.
Hinton turned aside four shots during Tuesday's 1-0 victory over regionally-ranked Springfield College, a game the Lyons won with five seconds on the clock. She then equaled her save total in Saturday's 1-0 overtime victory at Smith College. Hinton hasn't allowed a goal since September 8.
Wheaton, which is ranked 16th in the country and tied for third in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), is undefeated through 13 games with an 11-0-2 record. The Lyons are also unbeaten through five league matches at 5-0. Wheaton hosts Salem State University on Wednesday in a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
