STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Beavers offense and defense were on full display on Saturday as the City College of New York men's and women's soccer teams outscored Medgar Evers College, 12-1, in Saturday's sweep over the Cougars at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex.

The men's improved to 7-7-2 on the year and 5-2-1 in City University of New York Athletic Conference action while the women improved to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in CUNYAC play.

MEN'S GAME

CCNY 5, MEDGAR EVERS 1

The men's team, led by Mike Beick-Baffour's two goals, his first two goals of 2012, scored four first half goals. After Beick-Baffour's first goal gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, freshman Joe Read scored on a free kick for his first collegiate goal and Bertrand Oubida added his first netter of 2012 to give CCNY a 3-0 lead. Four minutes later, Beick-Baffour connected with the back of the net to score his second goal of the game.

Medgar Evers scored its first goal of the game in the second half before Nicolas Corrao scored his first goal of the season on a free kick of his own.

WOMEN'S GAME

CCNY 7, MEDGAR EVERS 0

The Beavers continued right where they left off as seven first half goals, all in the first 31 minutes of the conference contest were too much for the Cougars.

The victory marked the fifth CUNYAC win for City College as CCNY has yet to allow a conference goal this season. Goalkeeper Nicole Carroll improved to 13-2 with 11 shutouts as the sophomore has only allowed eight goals all season. The defense stifled the Cougars as Medgar Evers only recorded four shots all game.

Senior and reigning CUNYAC/Applebee's Women's Soccer Player of the Week Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade led the offensive onslaught with her 18th goal of the season five minutes into the game. Fellow seniors Tabitha Azor and Frances Tapia found the back of the net for their own goals, numbers five and 11, respectively.

Wade then picked up two assists as Cebrina Porter scored her second goal of the year and reigning CUNYAC/Applebee's Women's Rookie of the Week Paola Ramos registered her sixth goal of the season as the Beavers led 5-0 in just over 15 minutes of action.

Freshman Juliet Shubaev scored her first collegiate goal on a pass from fellow newcomer Taylor Jo Gillen before Jo Gillen netted her fifth goal of the season off of a pass from Elyzabeta Paradna for a 7-0 lead.

The Beavers conclude their regular season on Thursday, Oct. 25 against CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island in a battle for the number one seed in the CUNYAC playoffs.
