Centre women fall in overtime at Rhodes for first loss
The Centre women's soccer team suffered its first loss on the season, falling 2-1 to Rhodes in the second overtime period of a Southern Athletic Association game Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.
With just 1:30 left to play in the final overtime, Rhodes claimed the victory when Beth Ann McCloskey scored on an assist from Kelsey Keown. The loss ends Centre's 15-game winning streak, dropping the Colonels to 15-1 on the season and 5-1 in SAA competition. Rhodes improves to 11-3-1 overall and is also 5-1 in the conference.
It was Keown who also scored the first goal of the game, getting the Lynx out to a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 25th minute. That lead held up until the 63rd minute when Centre's Alex Combs (Danville, Ky.) scored an unassisted goal that would tie the score and eventually send the game to overtime.
Centre outshot Rhodes 11-10 for the game and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Centre's Holly Hilton (New Palestine, Ind.) and Allison Cowling of Rhodes each made three saves in the game.
The Colonels wrap up the regular season Saturday at Sewanee before returning home to host the SAA Tournament beginning Nov. 2.
